Things to check BEFORE you call Maintenance

Troubleshoot problems below

Maintenance Problem Possible Solution
Smoke/CO Detector won’t work when tested Monthly check and replace battery as needed. Notify maintenance at once if still not working.
Smoke/CO detector beeps softly on and off Check and replace battery.
No power to plugs or switches Check breaker panel or fuse box. Check and reset GFI plug. Check if plug works off wall switch.
Garbage disposal or Dishwasher won’t work Push reset button on disposal or use Allen wrench and turn. Clear foreign debris from disposal.
No hot water Check thermostat on hot water tank.
Hot water “TOO HOT” Check thermostat on tank and turn down.
Faucet or toilet leaks Turn off water fixture under sink, toilet at valve and notify maintenance.
Toilet or sink backed up / not draining Try plunger. If still backed up, call maintenance.
Heater Not Working Check thermostat / check batteries.
Dishwasher won’t drain Clean food out of bottom of dishwasher. Clean filter. Use Jet Dry® once a month, it prevents hard water build up.
Refrigerator too warm or too cold Check thermostat, set correctly.

In the case of freezing weather

  • Cover outside hose faucets.
  • Disconnect outside hoses.
  • Shut off water to outside faucet if possible and drain lines.
  • Cover foundation vents with approved insulation materials.
  • Ensure thermostat set to min 55 degrees fahrenheit in home.

Frozen pipes

To prevent: Leave cupboard and pantry doors open where pipes are with heat turned up.
